Freska Winter day

We celebrated Freska’s Winter day together in Paloheinä, Helsinki 17th of March 2022. There was a chance to try cross-country skiing and sledding. Finally, we had the opportunity to organize something together with a bigger group! There couldn’t be a better weather - the sun was shining from the clear sky and you could already feel the heat on your face. We had been thinking about organizing this winter event for some time, and because we realized that the snow is melting faster than we could have expected, we decided to put something up right away. What would be a Winter day without snow? Despite the short notice, many Freskans arrived to enjoy this sunny Saturday!

There were lots of skis and ski boots, few sleds and sliders and some warm beverages waiting for Freskans in Paloheinä. We collected a few chairs and a table in the sun so we could enjoy and rest our feet during the day.

First, it was time for sledding! Paloheinä hill is a well-known and popular sled hill in the winter in Helsinki, although this time there were just us - the peace and quiet was possibly due to a large puddle waiting for us below the hill… But that didn’t stop us from sledding, it was absolutely awesome! Many of us were sledding for the first time, and the experience was quite fun and action-packed.

While we were sledding, more Freskans had already arrived to enjoy the Winter day and then it was time to try some skiing! Tips and techniques were taught to first-timers by Freska’s own ski coach Heli. “It all starts with balance and the power of the core!”. We skied a small loop, which went incredibly well from the first-timers! Some of the gang wanted to go even further to find out where to slide with these skis.

Comments like “Where can I rent these skis?”, “I need to buy my own skis next winter!” and “The ski boots are so good and comfortable on my feet that I want to work in these.” pictures, how well Freskans enjoyed doing this Finnish national sport. Next winter, Freska Winter day will be celebrated even bigger!

The Winter day ended with the last round of sledding, which did not lack momentum. Happy faces, a good mood and laughter were present throughout the Winter day and hopefully all participants enjoyed the event. One of the Freskan’s comment also sums up the thoughts of the day:
